Let's accumulate some distance between us! Being a passionate advocate of sport and travel providing the ideal basis for people to develop a care for the environment, Dave is using the Blue Mile Initiative to get people on the water as he paddles the length of the Murray between October and December 2009. The idea is for schools, individuals or clubs to get sponsored per kilometre that they paddle with Dave, with the funds going to the Great Big Paddle's charity, The AV Foundation.
What is a Blue Mile?
A Blue Mile is a mile travelled on water, whether you're paddling, swimming, wading, sailing, you name it!
If we join Dave how many Blue Miles do we have to do?
You can do as many as you like. Join Dave for a couple of kilometres into or out of your home town, or make a trip of it and paddle for a whole day, or even two!
Ok, I'm in, how do I get involved?
Firstly, check out the Murray Expedition map. You can see where Dave has been and where he's going, and most importantly when he expects to get there. Then get in touch with the man himself and let him know you're keen to do some Blue Miles. - contact page
I don't think I can make it to the Murray to join Dave, can I still do some Blue Miles?
If you want to do some Blue Miles but can't join Dave on the water that's ok, but you must raise some funds for our AV Foundation charity solar and water project when you complete your challenge, then send us your total and some pics and we're away!
Do I need to do anything else?
Do a bit of fundraising for our charity project, which puts solar panels on the roofs of schools in East Africa. You don't have to raise much, every little helps! Put on a BBQ, take a sponsorship sheet around to your friends, then donate online @ our very own page: www.justgiving.com/greatbigpaddle
I've visited the Blue Mile website, how do I sign up?
